Trent Reznor turns 61.

Today, Trent Reznor turns 61 — and it’s hard to overstate just how much his work shaped alternative music, industrial rock, film scoring, and even modern electronic production. From the raw aggression of The Downward Spiral to the layered beauty of The Fragile, Reznor built a sound that felt mechanical, human, angry, vulnerable, and strangely beautiful all at once.

What makes his career especially remarkable is that he never stayed frozen in one era. Beyond Nine Inch Nails, he reinvented himself as an award-winning film composer alongside Atticus Ross, creating scores for films like The Social Network and Soul. Even now, he’s still evolving creatively with recent projects like Nine Inch Noize and ongoing soundtrack work.

For a lot of Gen X and alternative music fans, Reznor wasn’t just someone making songs — he gave a voice to alienation, anxiety, obsession, and survival in a way that felt brutally honest. And somehow, decades later, the music still sounds futuristic. Happy birthday, Trent.
